Hello, I am trying to plan a do it yourself wedding in a barn. i have a very limited budget and am looking to do a very simple, but elegant country wedding. i need ideas and perhaps stuff left over from another brides' country autumn/fall wedding. thanks so much. money is so tight, :{{ we're paying for everything ourselves and it's in a barn where there is nothing supplied, we have to bring in everything. food, decor, flowers, etc. any ideas or left overs would be great appreciated!!!
We're having a wedding at a private estate so the ceremony will be outside and the reception will be in a barn. For the lounge area, we're having hay bales brought in and we'll be putting white IKEA blankets on top of them and tieing them with twine. That's really the only rustic decor detail we're having. For escort cards, we're hanging them from a clothesline and pinning them with clothespins.
I have some fall "lanterns" that you might be interested in. I can email you pictures if you post your email address or send me a private message.
Let me know!
I'm going with an autumn theme and am planning to use an assortment of pumpkins and gourds in wicker baskets (probably from Christmas Tree Shops) as centerpieces and accent decor. You can also use inexpensive mirrors underneath centerpieces to make them look bigger and add some elegance. I'll also place some pots of mums around the venue to add floral accents that don't cost a fortune. If plain pumpkins are too rustic for your purposes, my mom's friend attended a wedding where the bride had decorated her pumpkin centerpieces to look like Cinderella's coach!
I don't know where you are or if you have already figured out what to do for your decor, but I am in NYC and got married last year in the fall in the Hudson Valley. I have a ton of cylindar vases which I covered in various Asian red papers and I also have a ton of natural leaves which have been treated with glycerin so they keep their color and remain soft. I would love to see them go to a good home and am ready to part with them cheap :)
I just did a outside country wedding for my stepdaugther we used old wagon wheels and a antique goat cart filled with pots of flowers, I found railroad latterns at family dollar store for 2.50 a piece and use 1.00 picture frame to use for signs telling what each food items was that was served.I used a gav. tub for ice with a gav ice scoop, I served flavored tea instead of punch. I had a old looking candle holder that I hung from the top of the tent that I used it really turned out nice. I hope this helped you out.
Lucky duck! That is what I wanted to do, but due to time constraints it's just not going to happen. But, I have a boat-load of ideas!
I saw this gorgeous rustic barn wedding where they used the white linens supplied by the rental company but overlayed them with tan burlap (looked gorgeous on long tables, but could work for round too!) it kept it clean and simple looking. Also, loads and loads of candles...maybe in metal lanterns, or have bowls of apples lining a table with candles. also, they sell those silk autumn leaves that would really add some color to the table. Also, mums are in season, so load up on those!
For food I was considering doing cider, donuts, candy apples, caramel apples, and different kinds of yummy soups served in pretty mugs. just more along the "finger foods" type thing. Think of banana breads, zuchhini breads, beer breads...these are all things that can be made ahead of time and leftovers can be frozen. Also maybe have the spinach dip and pumpkernickel bread. plus, if you buy the mixes from something like Tastefully Simple, it's EASY as heck to make.
Have big tubs full of ice with root beer, beer, Jones Sodas, etc.
And, as silly as this sounds, there was a Harry Potter website that had a recipe for "pumpkin juice" and good lord, it is SO good!! The perfect fall drink!
